ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

HeirBloom Co. was founded in 2019 by certified doula and educator Kanisha Ffriend, M.S.Ed, CLD, whose passion for improving health outcomes for marginalized and at-risk mothers bloomed at Syracuse University, where her volunteer work connected her to teen mothers-to-be who lacked information and guidance about pregnancy and birth. 

Kanisha, who is a first-generation American of Jamaican parents, has witnessed the marginalization of Brown and Black mothers by western medicine that puts them at-risk for poor birth outcomes. She wanted mothers to know there was a better way—a way that honored and respected them and put them at the center of their childbirth experience.
